About Us

Sidrah Foundation / About Us

BEHIND THE NAME

Named after “Sidrahtul Muntaha,” the plant which guards the 7th heaven in Islam. Its roots are in the 6th heaven and yet protected the layer above it. The inspiration derived from it as well as the fact that the lotus flower bloomed with its roots in the water.

This signified that wherever the roots may lay, protecting lives or helping others is something that can be done starting from where you are. And so, the name Sidrah came to being.

OUR MOTIVATION

We don’t have to go outside to find people in need, but we must look around us and start helping the people who are our closest. It’s no shame to help someone in need, but the kindness a charity grants and the compassion it displays is what heals the soul of the needy.

MISSION

We primarily focus on combating poverty and expanding opportunity and well-being for all people in Bangladesh at large, targeting self- sustenance.

VISION

We envision creating a society where there is always someone in the face of helplessness to show kindness and compassion.

WHAT MAKES US MOVE FORWARD

To create impact

We work each day to make sure that kindness is spread through our works. It doesn’t matter how big we go, but the only thing that matters is our impact.

To work for people in need

If we look around, there are certainly people in constant needs and assistance. This helplessness doesn’t just disappear in the blink of an eye but takes help, care and kindness to overcome.

To help in self-sustenance

Complaining about your current state isn’t going to solve your problem. You have to take action to move forward, but that being said, not all can do so, and so here at SIDRAH, we do everything within our hand, even if it is small, to help you sustain and move forward.

Our Story

Our journey started back in 2014, when things took a turn for the worst that left Nadia Sarker, our founder’s father Mr. Hanif Sarker, paralysed. Even though he was improving, he could not eat like before and always needed help.

This helplessness that Nadia felt made her realise the other side of the coin, and so she asked herself.

Despite all the success my father has achieved in life, he could not do anything about his paralysis. The pain of my father not being able to eat makes me think about all the people out there who genuinely do not have themselves.

Who is helping them?

STORY CONTINUED…

She then started to take action, began cooking every Friday, and distributed the food among 20-30 people. After a few months of doing this, Nadia partnered up with a local restaurant that would cooperate with her and share singara, samosa among municipality workers.

Like this, once a week turned into twice a week. She even gradually began to connect her close friends in her motivation.

Whenever they would go to a restaurant, after clearing the bills, she would urge her friends to contribute a portion of the bill to the noble cause.

After that, word began spreading, and she started growing a lot of funds through her friends and word of mouth. More and more people eventually got involved.

Then in 2020, after the pandemic hit the country, she became worried about the working-class people. So, she started to feed more than 300 people per day and continued since the pandemic, and so after seven years of operation, we finally took off under the name of SIDRAH FOUNDATION

We don’t have to go outside to find people in need, but we must look around us and start helping the people who are our closest. It’s no shame to help someone in need, but the kindness a charity grants and the compassion it displays is what heals the soul of the needy.

Nadia Sarker, the Founder

We are currently engaged in various charitable activities such as providing food

and relief to children and families affected by natural disasters, organizing food camps for the marginalised people, managing medical centers, and helping to improve the health of the needy.

In addition, we are frequently involved in joint programs with organisations and agencies that are aligned with the goal of assistance, rehabilitation and development in Bangladesh.

Not to mention, we are continuously employing ourselves in promoting self- sustainability for the betterment of marginalised people in Bangladesh.
